I became aware of ethical shopping and the exploitation of workers in third world countries roughly two years ago while doing an assignment for a college class. I was required to watch a documentary called 'no logo- brands, globalization, resistance' which was based on a book by author Naomi Klein. A few weeks later I had a conversation about this with a friend who introduced me to the smart phone app "shop ethical". Flash forward a year and I was doing an assignment for another college class that required I watch the Documentary 'an inconvenient truth' by Al Gore which got me thinking about climate change, but honestly I felt so powerless to effect anything that I just pushed it aside and moved on with my life and that brings us to the beginning of this year. All this time I felt the burden of living ethically but couldn't quite figure out what action I could take. Separately to these things I started watching YouTube videos on Veganism and plant based diets it was while watching one of these videos that I was pointed in the direction of four documentaries, it was after watching the first of these (cowspiracy) that i realized that the small difference I can make is completely worth it. All of the following documentaries have in one way or another, impacted my choice to take the vegan path, this does not mean I agree 100% with everything in all of the films but it does mean something in them has given me a nudge in a good direction. I will do my best to provide links for further information on all the documentaries listed.
food and health
environmental and animal impacts
human exploitation
The app I mentioned earlier in the post was 'Shop ethical' they also have a website.
The you tube video that really pointed me in the right direction was "how to go vegan in 270 minutes" by Derek from 'unconventional living' I totally recommend you subscribe to him.
hopefully this blog post is helpful and somewhat interesting.
